This is a question many have asked and I used to ask this same question as well before. Some argue on when we can have fruits, some say before eating, others say very early in the morning others told me they take fruits in between meals and some said immediately after meals. But today, this article is going to clear all doubts and note that fruits are very essential for your body.
I can remember very well when I used to supply fruit salad in offices in Douala, many will ask me how can you give them fruits very early in the morning on an empty stomach? They will tell me they need food not fruits. Some will tell me they’re sorry I’m late because they ate an hour earlier before I came. Some will say “just give me let me mix it with my food”. And in all of this situations, I had to always explain these situations to my clients just like I’m going to explain to you now.
In as much as we may take fruits as desserts after meal, Fruits are very important and advisable to be eaten very early in the morning after a glass of water. This is the best and appropriate time to take fruits. This is what i explain to my clients each time they tell me they haven’t eaten since morning and I’m bringing fruits to them. This is the best time, these fruits can add nutrients to our body. This point according to research is the most acceptable by many medical practitioners around the world.
Also, fruits can be taken during meals, According to Dr Venuturumilli, fruits can be taken at any time and it can be eaten along with other foods. He said the body produces enzymes for protein, fat, and carbohydrates, which helps it digest mixed meals. This is because, the stomach has a high concentration of hydrochloric acid, bacteria is killed before it is able to reproduce so fermentation cannot take place in the stomach.
However, fruits should not be taken directly after meals because they may not be digested and absorbed properly by the body. This particularly goes to diabetes patients who have digestive issues like acidity. And they’re advised to to take fruits one hour before meals ad 2 hours after meals.
The bottom line is this, try to give a gap of 30 mins before meals or after before having fruits.
